MTS launches Russia’s first LTE base station fueled by hydrogen
MOSCOW, Dec 4 (PRIME) -- Mobile operator MTS has launched Russia’s first LTE base station working on hydrogen-air fuel and the new system is ecologically-friendly and compact, the company said Friday in a statement.
“MTS periodically introduces alternative sources of power to fuel infrastructure facilities in Russian regions. In 2009 we were the first among operators to test the work of generators running on hydrogen power elements and today we start their implementation,” MTS’s chief power engineer Anatoly Gromakov said.
“Hydrogen use is ecologically safe and makes it possible to double the time of work of a base station from the system of reserve power as compared to traditional solutions with a comparable value. The application of hydrogen elements is especially important to ensure a long-term reserve at key facilities, like nodal stations, where it is urgent to guarantee a lengthy supply of power to network infrastructure.”
The first LTE base station working on the hybrid system of power supply was put in operation in the Moscow Region.
The system of reserve power with a capacity up to 10 kilowatt is built on the basis of a module platform and includes fuel elements, a management system, a power accumulator and a voltage convertor.
